“Clotilde’s Fruit Compôte Ltd was established in 2011 and is located in Glanworth, Co.Cork. The company was born from a partnership between dairy farmer Pat Landers and food lover Clotilde Fitzgibbon. Clotilde was reared on a tillage and pig farm in Northern France. What was produced from the farm or the garden was consumed on a daily basis and her mother was constantly cooking and baking good and nutritious meals. One of the main produce was apples. As Clotilde likes saying, she ate apples morning noon and night but thankfully in different forms! However apples served as compote was a common dessert and one that was enjoyed by the whole family.
So when Pat came to her for ideas about a new business venture, it didn’t take Clotilde long to find the right idea! Indeed, compotes are consumed everyday in France as they are a healthy snack or dessert. The Irish consumers are also looking for new healthy fruit snacks and the compotes satisfy this demand.
The compotes that Clotilde makes are a blend of apples and another fruit, such as strawberries, raspberries, pears, blackberries, lemon and orange. They are 100% natural as there is no added sugar, no additives or preservatives. They are packed in a handy 130g pot size and must be kept refrigerated. Clotilde and Pat spend a lot of time at markets or doing tastings as the Irish palate is not accustomed yet to it and Irish people need to be educated and informed of how and when to use the product. The common question asked by shoppers “and what do you do with it?” makes Clotilde smile as she realises the challenge ahead of her! Her answer is consume it on its own as it is a great alternative to a bowl of fruit but use it also with desserts, natural yogurts, porridge, scones and even add it to savoury dishes such as pork, sausages, venison etc…
We are convinced that this product is the new Smoothie! We are offering the Irish consumers a unique high quality food product, creating a new niche market within the chilled fruit snack. The health aspect of the product is the key selling point but let’s not forget that it tastes divine too! It is an artisan product made in small batches. The fruit are cooked slowly at low temperature so all the juices are preserved! It is delicious, nutritious, easy to use and fun way to use! It kills the monotony of eating fruit.
